ENGLAND, UK – Solway Sharks extended their winning run in all competitions to 11 matches after recording two more victories over the weekend.

Lewis Houston’s second goal of the game was the decider as the Sharks secured a 4-3 home victory over Solihull Barons in Moralee D1.

They followed up by recovering from a three-goal deficit to win 4-3 at Murrayfield Racers in the NIHL North Cup – Scott Henderson bagged the winner.

Whitley Warriors triumphed 8-3 at home to Billingham Stars in the same competition – Ben Campbell (2), Phil Edgar (2) and Callum Watson (2) were amongst their scorers.

The Barons bounced back from their disappointment at Solway by recording a one-sided 10-2 victory at Blackburn Hawks – Tom Soar (4) led their scoring.

Lloyd Gibson weighed in with a couple of goals as Sutton Sting won 6-1 at Nottingham Lions. Sting beat the Lions 7-4 on home ice in the Midlands Cup the previous day.

Tom Humphries (2) topped the scoring for Sheffield Senators as they secured an impressive 5-2 victory at Hull Jets.

Altrincham Aces were beaten 5-3 on home ice by Widnes Wild, but recovered in style with a 7-4 win at Deeside Dragons.

Fraser Kerr grabbed a hat-trick for Bradford Bulldogs in their emphatic 8-3 success at Telford Tigers 2.

PHN’s top two talking points

Longstaff and Humphries scoop awards

David Longstaff (Whitley) and Tom Humphries (Sheffield) were deservedly chosen as Player of the Month for September in their respective divisions.

Longstaff had further cause for celebration on Sunday as his teenage son, Matty, made his Premier League debut for Newcastle United against Manchester United.

The Whitley player/coach would undoubtedly have been bursting with pride as he watched his son grab the only goal of the game in front of the Gallowgate End.

Solihull looking impressive

Solihull were unfortunate to lose a seven-goal thriller at Solway on Saturday, but bounced back to humiliate Blackburn on their home ice the following day.

Tom Soar weighed in with four goals against the lacklustre Hawks to continue the good form he showed during the opening month.

If the Barons continue in the same vein there is no reason why they can’t push title favourites Whitley all the way this season.
