NIHL North round-up: Moralee D1 title race goes down to the wire

ENGLAND, UK – The Moralee D1 title race will go down to the final weekend, with three clubs still in with a chance of claiming top spot.

Hull Pirates are in pole position following two big victories over the weekend. The Pirates won 14-1 at home to Billingham Stars and 16-0 at Nottingham Lions.

The Yorkshire club’s final two games are against title rivals Telford Tigers (H) and Sheffield Steeldogs (A).

The Tigers started the weekend with a 7-1 win at Blackburn Hawks, but missed the chance to lead the standings following a 3-2 shoot-out defeat at home to Sheffield.

Tom Watkins’ side travel to Hull next Saturday, before rounding off their fixtures on home ice against Solihull Barons the following day.

Sheffield visit Solway Sharks on Saturday and play what could be the title decider at home to Hull 24 hours later.

Solway had a mixed weekend, winning 7-1 at home to Nottingham Lions, before failing to a 5-4 defeat at Solihull.

Callum Watson bagged a hat-trick for Whitley Warriors in their 6-0 home win against Billingham.

Robin Kovar matched the feat with a treble for Blackburn in their 6-2 road victory at Sutton Sting.

Telford Tigers 2 enjoyed a four-point weekend in Laidler D2, winning 7-4 at home to Altrincham Aces and 6-2 at Blackburn Hawks 2.

Richard Haggar grabbed the winner as Hull Jets sealed a 6-5 overtime success at Coventry Blaze NIHL.

Bradford Bulldogs boosted their hopes of a top four finish courtesy of a 4-0 home victory over Blackburn.

Truels Lone scored four for Sheffield Senators in their 7-3 home win against Deeside Dragons.
