NIHL North round-up: Four-point weekend for Sting, Hackford leads Jets to the top

ENGLAND, UK – Sutton Sting strengthened their grip on a top four place in Moralee D1 as they recorded two impressive home victories over the weekend.

Adrian Palak (2) and Ryan Johnson (2) were amongst the scorers as Sting raced to a 7-2 win against Billingham Stars on Saturday.

Palak weighed in with another double the following day to lead his team to an impressive 4-2 victory over title-chasing Solway Sharks.

The Sharks had better luck the previous day as they triumphed 4-3 at home to Solihull Barons – Iain Bowie (2), Struan Tonnar and Peter Gapa got the goals.

Whitley Warriors are just a point behind Solway with two games in hand following their 11-1 home victory over Nottingham Lions – Phil Edgar (4) led the scoring.

In the NIHL Midlands Cup, Solihull were beaten 6-4 at Blackburn Hawks in a dead rubber match to conclude the group stage.

Dan Hackford bagged five goals as Hull Jets moved to the top of Laidler D2 with a comprehensive 14-2 home victory over Blackburn Hawks 2.

William Newcombe (3) led the way for Sheffield Senators as they ran out 4-2 winners at Telford Tigers 2.

Shaun Dippnall also bagged a hat-trick for Widnes Wild in their 7-2 road victory at Deeside Dragons.
