LANCASHIRE, UK – Telford Tigers 2 face Sutton Sting and Deeside Dragons 2 this weekend hoping to keep up the pressure on the leading sides in Laidler D2.
Nine wins from their last ten games has moved the Tigers four points behind leaders Widnes Wild with 14 games still to play.
Netminder Zack Brown has been a key part of Telford’s recent form and his efforts were recently recognised as he was chosen as December’s Player of the Month for D2.
The former Hull Pirates stopper says he’s delighted at how things are going in Shropshire.
“We’ve really come together over the past month or so and it’s showing in our results,” said Brown.
“Every game now for us is an important game, especially if we want to make the play-offs, starting this weekend against a skilful Sutton side and a hard-working Deeside team.
“It was nice to be selected as Player of the Month in my first full month in D2. There’s some quality players in the league, so it’s a nice boost in confidence to be recognised and hopefully as a team we can keep getting results and climbing the table.”
Deeside Dragons head to Billingham Stars on Sunday with renewed hope that they can avoid finishing bottom of Moralee D1.
Club favourite Gary Shaw has returned to the Dragons in a coaching capacity, although he faces a tough battle to catch the teams above them in the table.
Deeside have won just twice this season and are four points behind Nottingham Lions, but Shaw believes he can turn things around.
“I ran training this week for the first time and we changed a couple of things,” he said. “This hopefully will help the team work together and enhance the performance.
“The weekend ahead will be another tough game against a well-organised team.
“I hope it will be a close affair and if we move the puck well we will create some good opportunities. A strong defensive game will hopefully help us produce a good team performance.
“For the rest of the season, I hope that the team works hard performs well and entertains the fans.
“I need to look at bringing back some players to help strengthen the team. I will also be looking to promote some young players from within the club and maybe we pick up some points on the way.”
