LANCASHIRE, UK – It’s another busy weekend in NIHL North, with 14 games scheduled to take place in both the league and cup.
There are some particularly interesting match-ups in Moralee D1 and Laidler D2, so read on as PHN looks at three standout games from over the weekend.
Solihull Barons v Sutton Sting – Moralee D1 – Sunday
Both these sides have had an up and down campaign and Sunday’s game should be a good yardstick of how they are progressing.
They have already played each other twice this season, with each team recording one victory – both by a single goal margin.
The Barons head into the game on the back of a three-game winning run and can edge what should be an entertaining contest.
Prediction: Solihull 6-4 Sutton
Blackburn Hawks v Solway Sharks – Moralee D1 – Sunday
The Hawks appeared to be on an upward curve with four wins in a row, but four successive defeats have halted that progress.
Solway have won six of their last eight matches in all competitions, although one of those defeats came at home to Blackburn during November.
The Sharks have won four on the spin away from home, but the Hawks can pinch a narrow victory this weekend.
Prediction: Blackburn 4-3 Solway
Hull Jets v Widnes Wild – Laidler D2 – Saturday
Widnes have won nine in a row to open up a three-point lead at the top of D2, but they could come unstuck at Hull on Saturday.
The Jets were the last team to beat Widnes with a 4-2 home success back in October and they will fancy their chances of repeating the trick.
Wild recorded a 3-1 victory on home ice against the Jets last weekend, but Hull can gain their revenge this weekend.
Prediction: Hull 5-3 Widnes
