LANCASHIRE, UK – Sheffield Steeldogs and Telford Tigers go head-to-head this weekend in the final of the Moralee D1 play-offs.
Both clubs have booked their place alongside NIHL1 South sides Basingstoke Bison and Peterborough Phantoms at the Final Four Weekend in Coventry, but they will be eager to secure the regional bragging rights ahead of the main event.
The league champions have defeated Billingham Stars and Solihull Barons to reach the final, while Telford beat Whitley Warriors and Hull Pirates to book their spot.
There was little to choose between the two sides during the regular season, with each recording two victories from their previous four meetings.
Joe Miller’s shoot-out striker secured a 4-3 home victory for Telford back in September, but Sheffield triumphed 3-2 in the return fixture during November.
Jason Silverthorn’s first period effort gave Telford a 1-0 road success in January, while Milan Kolena topped the scoring with a couple of goals as Sheffield ran out 4-1 winners in Shropshire during February.
The two sides will follow up the regional play-off final with a trip to Coventry next weekend.
The winners of the northern play-offs will face the runners-up of the south finals on Saturday, 7th April, at 1.00pm. The south play-off winners meet the runners-up from the north at 5.00pm. The NIHL Final Four national championship game takes place the following day at 4.30 pm.
The event also features a clash between the D2 league winners in the north and south as Sutton Sting face-off against Sutton Sting at 12.30pm.
Tickets remain on sale from the Coventry Skydome by telephone on 02476 630693 priced at £38 for adults and £20 for concessions (16 & under and senior citizens).
