WOKINGHAM, BERKSHIRE, UK – The part of the #COVID19 pandemic that has managed to show itself over the last few months is not so much the clamoring to reopen as much as the societal response to the pandemic and the inherent human need to help and do something to make a difference.
In the United Kingdom, professional hockey was shuttered shortly after leagues suspended play. Decisions were made quickly for health, safety and financial reasons. With the EIHL, NIHL and SNL closed for the season, fans have shifted focus.
In one case, Lewis Slyfield is taking an active role in supporting #COVID19 relief efforts
in the UK.
Slyfield is taking on the gaming world this week.
“So I have decided to join in this month with Operation Covid-19,” Slyfield said. :It’s a marathon of online gaming that will run from Friday, 8 May to Saturday morning.”
The competition starts this Friday at 8:00 am GMT and runs through to 3″00 am GMT.
I will be completing a 19 Hours livestream in one go.
Playing a variety of video games with friends and guests who I am lining up to come and play with me.
Operation Covid-19 is being hosted by Tiltify for the British Red Cross and National Health Service (NHS). Click here for a link to the hosting site.
The objectives of Slyfield’s efforts are no small feats. He’s looking to help NHS quickly and safely clear beds from hospitals to make sure they’re ready to support any patients in life-threatening conditions as a result of the virus.
“We’re also showing support to the Volunteers who are working in communities to provide to the most vulnerable with food, medicine and essentials throughout these difficult times,” Slyfield said. “Even working in emergency departments to offer psychosocial and practical support to those suffering emotionally from the effects of isolation and economic hardship.”
Slyfield aims to raise £1200 for the cause with some incentives along the way.
“At £600 I will shave off my beard,” Slyfield said. “And at the full measure (£1200), I will shave off my hair and go bald to show my support.”
Slyfield is not doing this alone as he has managed to attract supporters for git cards to be distributed when he hits £100, “I’ll giveaway a £25 gift card to a winner and they can pick the shop of their choice.”
One sponsor, Charlie Johnson Fitness, has committed two spaces of the well known 8-week transformation program (Shreddin8 & Scupltin8).
Slyfield will draw winning tickets from a hat on the livestream.
“We are asking that all donors be named as we cannot make awards to anonymous donation cards,” Slyfield said.if people donate they need to put there name as I will not be able to give a prize to someone that donated anonymously.
