NHL statement on Evander Kane

On Saturday, reports have suggested that Evander Kane of the San Jose Sharks has apparently wagered on Sharks games in the past.

Kane’s wife, Anna Kane, posted incriminating comments on her Instagram account.

The National Hockey League today released the following statement:

“The League was made aware this evening of a post on social media alleging that San Jose Sharks Player Evander Kane bet on NHL games. The integrity of our game is paramount and the League takes these allegations very seriously. We intend to conduct a full investigation and will have no further comment at this time.”

Anna Kane has alleged her husband has a gambling addiction that has led to her being forced to sell their house and her wedding ring while Kane travels to Europe.

“The Sharks have been in contact today with the [NHL] about the serious allegations made against Evander Kane,” the team said in a statement. “We support a full and transparent investigation into the situation to maintain the integrity of the game and consistency with our team values.”

Reportedly, in 2019, The Cosmopolitan hotel and casino in Las Vegas sued Kane for $500,000 in gambling markers during an earlier stay. Two years later, in January 2021, Kane filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy after amassing $26.8 million in debt.

Kane is said to held just $10.2 million in assets after signing a seven-year, $49 million extension with the Sharks in 2018.
