Only one game graced the NHL preseason schedule for Sunday and the Capitals drilled the New York Islanders, 6-2, in Washington, DC.
Alex Ovechkin scored twice and John Carlson, Evgeny Kuznetsov T.J. Oshie, and Jay Beagle added markers for the Caps.
Braden Holtby made 22 stops in the Caps’ net for the win.
Thomas Greiss had a rough game in the Isles’ net in his start and yielded five goals on just 18 shots. He was relieved by Stephon Williams who gave up a goal and made seven saves.
Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo scored for New York.
