NHL daily sweep – 28 September 2015

The three-game sweep of the NHL preseason starts in Denver, where the Los Angeles Kings got a goal from Dustin Brown in the shootout to edge the Colorado Avalanche, 2-1.

Jonathan Quick started in the Kings’ net and stopped 10 of 11 through two periods; NHL Daily Sweep 3Peter Budaj came into the game in relief in the third period and made seven saves and stopped three of four SO attempts.

Michael Mersch scored for the Kings in the first period and Tyson Barrie scored in the second to tie the game in regulation.

Semyon Varlamov made 35 saves in the loss

In Dallas, Roberto Luongo made 20 saves and backstopped the Florida Panthers to a 4-2 win over the Stars.

Connor Brickley scored the go-ahead goal for the Panthers in the third and Florida also got goals from Jussi Jokinen, Reilly Smith and Derek MacKenzie.

Dallas’ Mattias Janmark and Travis Moen  scored in the loss and Kari Lehtonen made 17 saves in the loss.

In St John’s, Newfoundland, the Carolina Hurricanes edged the Ottawa Senators, 2-1.  Cam Ward was sharp in the ‘Canes’ net and made 26 saves for the win.

Jaccob Slavin scored with just over five left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie for the game-winner; Brock McGinn had scored in the first period for Carolina.

The Sens’ Shane Prince scored in the second period.

Ottawa’s Andrew Hammond made 24 saves in the loss.
