The three-game sweep of the NHL preseason starts in Montreal where the visiting Chicago Blackhawks whacked the Canadiens, 5-1.
Ryan Garbutt, Garret Ross and Kyle Baun scored in 5:07 span in the first to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead over Carey Price and Habs.
Price had 26 saves for a 60-mimute effort; Scott Darling also played the entire game and made 22 saves in the win.
Zack Kassian scored the lone goal for the Canadiens. Baun scored a second goal and Jan Hejda added an empty-netter for the final.
In Toronto, the Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres managed a back-and-forth game with the Sabres scoring midway through the third period to break a 4-all tie on a goal from Mark Pysyk.
Stuart Percy, Daniel Winnik and Matt Frattin had helped the Leafs build a 3-1 lead through the early minutes of the second period. But the Sabres replied for a 4-3 lead before Toronto’s Nazem Kadri knotted the game at 4-all early in the third.
Buffalo used Robin Lehner’s 22 saves and Nathan Lieuwen’s seven stops to get the win.
Jonathan Bernier played the entire game for Toronto and made 27 saves.
In Calgary, Jonas Hiller made 25 saves in a 4-1 for the Flames over the visiting Vancouver Canucks.
For the Canucks, Jacob Markstrom made 13 saves on 14 shots and split duty with Richard Bachman who made 15 saves.
Sam Bennett, Micheal Ferland, Sean Monahan, and Michael Frolik scored for Calgary
Jake Virtanen scored Vancouver’s only goal to give the Canucks an early 1-0 lead.
