NHL Daily Sweep – 26 November 2016

The sweep starts in Boston where the visiting Calgary Flames rode a 35-save performance from Chad Johnson in a 2-1 win over the Bruins.

“I just think he’s been fantastic,” Flames coach Glen Gulutzan said. “He’s making the first save, which you need, and he’s giving us great goaltending there, and then our guys are limiting those second chances, and it’s a good combination right now.”

Alex Chiasson had the game-winner in the third and Sam Bennett also scored for Calgary. Daily Sweep 3

Tuukka Rask had the night off and Anton Khudobin was in net for the loss; he made 27 saves.

David Pastrnak scored the Bruins’ lone goal.

“As the game went on we got better,” Boston coach Claude Julien said. “We had a lot of shots in front of their net. But the biggest thing is, we’re not scoring goals. Part of it is, we’ve got to hit the net with prime scoring chances. That’s one of them. The second one is, it’s OK to get scoring opportunities, but how do you create a second one off the original one? And I don’t see us getting those much so far this year. So, another area we need to get better at.”

In Glendale, the Arizona Coyotes featured their original sweaters on their 20th anniversary in the desert and beat the Edmonton Oilers, 3-2, in a shootout.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored the decisive goal in the skills competition after Shane Doan tied the game to force extra time in the third period.

Max Domi also scored for Arizona as the Coyotes rallied from a 2-0 deficit to get the win.

“We needed a win. Whatever the number is against them doesn’t matter; this was the one we wanted,” Doan said . “There are a lot of different players here and over there now. It’s just about playing.”

Mike Smith made 32 saves in picking up the win.

Connor McDavid and Adam Larsson scored goals for the Oilers.

“We definitely weren’t our best tonight and I think the real positive of that is we get another crack … on Sunday,” McDavid said. “We gave up way too many chances, way too many shots on net. [Talbot] was great back there, kept us in it all night and gave us a chance to win.”

In Dallas, the Stars’ Antti Niemi made 30 saves in a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

Esa Lindell scored his first NHL goal (the game-winner) and Radek Faksa also scored for the Stars.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve scored last time,” Lindell said. “So this feels good.”

Jayson Megna staked the Canucks to an early 1-0 lead in the first period.

“Just got a really nice pass from Bo [Horvat] there. He put it right behind the defenseman and it was a nice little area pass,” Megna said. “Kind of caught the D in an awkward position there and was able to get around [Niemi] and drive the net.”

Ryan Miller took the loss on 26 saves.

“We were tracking the puck really hard. We didn’t give them a whole lot of chances. This is a team that [wants] to play on the fly and they want to get chances that way, but we stayed above and we took away a lot of their speed. We created a lot of chances our way because of that,” Henrik Sedin said after the loss.
