Ahead of the extended Wednesday schedule before Thanksgiving the daily sweep features only the Ottawa Senators’ visit to Dallas Tuesday night.
The Sens and Stars scored a combined six goals in the third period but in the end, Ottawa had enough to hold their lead and win, 7-4.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Mike Hoffman scored two goals each and Mark Stone, Bobby Ryan and Milan Michalek scored.
“If you look at it, we’re getting chances. We had some good chances and we buried them,” Stone said. “They are very aggressive, so if you can make some kind of cute little plays to kind of get them spread out, you can generate offense. When they play that quick and that aggressive, you can find simple little plays to get your chances and I think that’s what we did tonight.”
Craig Anderson made 33 saves for the win.
“It’s a hard one,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. “It started with the first goal. Our defense had some big mistakes. John [Klingberg] might have had his toughest night of the year. That pair [Klingberg and Goligoski] might have had the toughest night of the year. We could have had two or three more goals scored against us. We could have had two goals at the end of the game scored against us.”
Jamie Benn expressed displeasure with his team’s efforts in what was seen as a bad loss.
“It’s pretty embarrassing,” Benn said. “We gave them pretty much all their goals, just bad turnovers.”
Patrick Sharp, Jamie Benn (scored twice) and Tyler Seguin had goals for the Stars.
“It’s embarrassing,” Dallas’ John Klingberg said. “We’ve got to get back at it [Wednesday] and practice and just start over.”
