NHL daily sweep – 14 Movember 2015

The three-game sweep of the NHL starts in Washington, DC where the Calgary Flames gutted out a 3-2 overtime win over the Capitals.

Karri Ramo who was recalled from the AHL in late October made 34 saves for the win.

“You could see signs that his game was building [over] the past [few] games,” Flames coach Bob Hartley said. “We could see the Karri that we saw last year, and last night right away I asked him ‘How do you feel?’ and he didn’t answer that question. He said, ‘I want to play.’ He came back with another strong performance and he was the player of the game for us.”NHL Daily Sweep 3

Ramo had been placed on waivers before ending up in Stockton.  His recall was a result of Jonas Hiller going down with an injury.

“We played really good, as we played last night,” Ramo said. “Both teams were tired at the start, and it’s slow hockey, but we stuck with it. We got better as the game went on and we got the lead (2-0); obviously we want to keep it and not go into overtime, but it’s part of the game and those points count.”

Sean Monahan had two goals, including the game-winner in the extra session and Michael Frolik added a goal in regulation.

The Caps got goals from Jay Beagle and Michael Latta.

In Detroit, the San Jose Sharks put together a strong defensive game and were supported by goals from Melker Karlsson, Matt Nieto and Joe Pavelski.

Martin Jones made 26 saves for the win.

Jimmy Howard faced only 14 shots on the night.

“We had some quality chances,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. “Obviously didn’t get as many shots as we’d like, but we had quality chances.

“We needed a win tonight. I thought we played a good road game,” DeBoer said. “They outshot us, but we’ve been on the wrong side of a few of those at home. … We kept their shots from the outside.”

In Pittsburgh, the Columbus’ Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves to backstop the Blue Jackets to a 3-1 win over the Penguins.

“[Bobrovsky] made some big saves,” Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella said. “There wasn’t a lot of chances, but he made some crucial saves. The thing I liked about his game was there wasn’t a lot of movement in his game. He just looked confident and he looked solid. It’s too bad he doesn’t get the shutout, but we’ll take the win and go home.”

The Jackets improved to 5-12-0 on the season.

“We didn’t execute very well,” Penguins captain Sidney Crosby said. “We still had our chances to get back into it. … I think that [Hornqvist non-goal] is a kick, so that’s pretty obvious.”
