NHL daily sweep – 1 October 2015 Rangers top Bruins in only other game

The three-game sweep starts in Carolina, where the Hurricanes rallied from a two-deficit in the second period to take a 4-3 shoot out win over the Washington Capitals Wednesday night.

Nathan Gerbe got the game-winner in the fourth round of the SO and scored in the second to help the Canes rally along with Riley Nash to erase the 3-1 deficit.

Braden Holtby got the start for the Caps and yielded three goals on 23 shots through 40 minutes; Justin Peters relieved Holtby and made four saves the rest of the way.

In Pittsburgh, the visiting Detroit Red Wings pasted their hosts in a 7-2 decision.  Andreas Athanasiou  scored twice to lead the Wings’ offense.

Dylan Larkin, Brendan Smith, Riley Sheahan, and Justin Abdelkader scored to give the Red Wings a 5-0 lead before the Pens got a marker from Daniel Sprong in the second period.

Detroit’s Petr Mrazek got the start and made 36 saves in the win; Jeff Zatkoff  made 15 saves in the Pens’ net.  It was the third game in as many nights for the Penguins.

In Philadelphia, the New Jersey Devils picked up two goals from Travis Zajac en route to a 4-2 win over the Flyers.

Chris Porter and Wayne Simmonds had given the Flyers a first period lead of 2-1.

Keith Kinkaid got the win for the Devils in making 27 saves.

Michal Neuvirth and Jason LaBarbera split duties in the Flyers’ net.
