NHL Daily Sweeep – 26 October 2016

The sweep of the NHL schedule from Tuesday night starts in Boston where the visiting Minnesota Wild played a complete game in a 5-0 shelling of the Bruins.

Devan Dubnyk made 27 saves in earning the shutout and five different skaters scored for the Wild.

“I think once we scored that first goal, it rattled their goalie pretty well because we scored right again,” Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. “And then once we scored the NHL Daily Sweep 3second goal it gave us confidence to keep going, so it was a good period. … I thought in the third period we did just enough to get it deep.”

The game turned in the second period when the Wild scored four goals from Charlie Coyle, Chris Stewart, Ryan Suter and Jason Zucker .

The Wild played well and managed to keep the Bruins off their game and left Boston scrambling to chase the puck throughout the game.

“If we’re going to cheat offensively and not do our job defensively, it ends up in the back of our net and we just lose momentum, we lose confidence, we lose everything that comes with it,” Boston head coach Claude Julien said. “We’ve just got to get better in that area and no matter who we have in our lineup, if they’re here it’s because their capable of doing the job.”

Jason Pominville capped the scoring with a marker in the third period.

The Bruins are banged with several missing players including David Backes and goalies  Tuukka Rask and Anton Khudobin.

Malcolm Subban  got the start for Boston but was pulled in favor of Zane McIntyre  after allowing three goals on just 16 shots.

In St Louis, Brian Elliott returned in a Calgary Flames sweater and stopped 23 shots to lead his new team past the Blues, 4-1.

Sam Bennett and Johnny Gaudreau had goals for the Flames who won for the second straight night and seem to have finally found their game and are now 3-4-1 on the season.

Dennis Wideman had a power play goal and Deryk Engelland  also scored for the Flames.

Kevin Shattenkirk was the lone goal scorer for the Blues.

Carter Hutton made 26 saves in the loss as the Blues fell to 4-2-1.

In Toronto, the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Steven Stamkos  had a big night in collecting two goals and four points in a 7-3 win over the Maple Leafs Tuesday.

“I think this year, what has helped me is coming into the rink with no distractions and a clear mind,” Stamkos said. “It all helps in having fun and feeling confident.”

Nikita Kucherov  also had four points in the win including a goal and three assists.

Victor Hedman, Alex Killorn, Vladislav Namestnikov and Jonathan Drouin  also scored for the Bolts.

William Nylander, James van Riemsdyk and Auston Matthews picked up goals for the Leafs.

Ben Bishop made 40 saves in the win and Frederik Andersen took the loss for Toronto on 17 saves.

Andersen got a vote of confidence from his head coach, Mike Babcock, after the game.

“We’re very confident in his ability. We do a lot of work in advance to know what he’s capable of doing, he’s done it for three years straight. It hasn’t gone very good for him,” Babcock said.  “Tonight would be, I think, a point for him where he’d want to regroup from. He’s a proud guy and it’s very important that we support him, but he’s got to get to work too and do his part. It’s all part of being on a team.”
