New look Bison add four Britons to roster

BASINGSTOKE: The new look Herd for the coming season continues to take shape with the addition of four British players, plus the appointment of an assitant coach, who will also be the Bison’s bench coach.

The four new additions are defenceman Adam Jones, along with forwards George Norcliffe, Danny Ingoldsby and Alex Sampford.

The new man behind the bench is a legend from the Bison’s past in Tony Redmond.

The Scot, who had his number 20 shirt retired, holds the record for the most appreances for the club, as well as being their all time top British points and goal scorer.

Redmond is of course no stranger to new Bison player/coach Ashley Tait and the pair both played against each other first in an England against Scotland game at under-13 level.

They went onto to be team mates for Great Britain junior teams, but until now they have never been on the same domestic team.

“He brings a wealth of experience to the team and is someone who will do a great job for us both as assitant coach and bench coach,” said Tait.

Of the latest four additons, two have already played for the Bison before, Basingstoke-born Sampford in seasons 2014/15 and 2015/16 and joins from Streatham, where last season he colelcted 15 points.

Ingoldsby was part of the Herd’s double winning side in 2013/14 and went onto ice for Wightlink Raiders and Bracknell Bees. Last year he returned 18 points scoring five times.

Norcliffe is another to make the move from the Bees, after he scored eight times and he started his career in Guildford his home town.

The 24-year-old also suited up for the Solent Devils, Wightlink and Streatham.

New defenceman Jones had an impressive time in the KIHHL with Summerland Steam, before returning to Britain and helped Telford Tigers to the final EPL league title.

Last season, he iced in the Elite League for Belfast and Guildford, before ending the season for the Tigers and helping them to the national play-off final, where the Shropshire side lost to the Bison.

Last term the blue liner scored seven times in 22 games on his way to a 21 point haul.

“I am pleased with the latest additions and the Bison team is starting to take shape,” said Tait.
