New Jersey doubled up by Carolina, 4-2 Both teams come out looking different after deadline, one for the better, the other, not so much - Update to follow

In Newark, the stripped down model of the Devils lost to the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-2, on Saturday. Pyotr Kochetkov made 23 saves in the win.

The Hurricanes moved to 38-19-6.

A two-goal outburst by Carolina in the third period helped snap a 1-1 tie and give them a 3-1 lead.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi  snapped the 1-1 tie at 2:50, scoring off a snap shot that eluded the New Jersey goalie and bounced off his back for the 2-1 count.

Andrei Svechnikov  hit an empty net with 71 seconds left on the regulation clock.

That ended up being a crucial hit as New Jersey closed the gap.

New Jersey dropped to 31-29-4, and are 1-4-0 in their last handful of games.

With the goal behind them empty, Timo Meier trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with 13 seconds left on the clock.

Teuvo Teravainen hit another empty net for Carolina with eight seconds left for the 4-2 final count on the scoreboard.

Carolina’s Martin Necas hit off a power play at 12:28 of the opening stanza to give the Canes a 1-0 lead, he scored through a screen.

New Jersey’s Nico Hischier tied the game, 1-1, at 15:27 of the middle frame.

Nico Daws made 22 saves in the loss.
