ESTERO, FL- Mark Nemec scores the game-winner just 31 seconds into overtime to give the Florida Everblades a 3-2 victory over the Reading Royals. The win was the third straight for the Everblades (18-8-0-0, 36 pts).
After scoring the game winner in the shootout on Wednesday, Ryan Martindale started right where he left off scoring the opening goal on a power play 2:44 into the opening frame. Martindale scored his first goal of the season on shot from the blue line.
Then just after the halfway mark of the opening period, Matt Marquardt found an open net rebounding a puck off of a Nemec shot and scoring his eighth goal of the season giving the Everblades a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
After a scoreless second period, the Royals fought their way back into the game, tying up the score halfway through the third frame.
One minute into the third period, the Royals were on the power play, and Robbie Czarnik delivered a rebound chance past Florida goaltender Anthony Peters to cut the Florida lead to one.
Then halfway through the final period, Cam Reid scored on a 2-on-1 chance when buried the pass from Justin Crandall into the back of the net to tie the game up at two.
Heading into overtime for the second game in a row, the Everblades didn’t take long to take home the victory.
Matt Willows skated to the top of the crease and left the puck to Nemec who tucked the puck top shelf over the left shoulder of Adam Morrison to win the game for the Blades 3-2.
Peters got the victory blocking 21 of 23 shots, while Morrison took the loss allowing three goals on 30 shots faced. Nemec finished the game with three points.
