KALAMAZOO, Mich – Bringing in a 14-game (12-0-1-1) road unbeaten streak to Wings Stadium, the Indy Fuel’s bark was worse than their bite, as Michael Neal unleashed two goals to help the Kalamazoo Wings to a 5-3 victory Sunday afternoon on Bring Your Dog to the Game Night.
Using special teams to jumpstart the offense, the K-Wings struck first with a power-play marker. Kane Lafranchise fired a slap shot from the blue line and found the stick of Neal for his 13th of the season.
Not letting up, Ludwig Blomstrand found space at the right circle and ripped one past the blocker of Shane Owen for their second with the man-advantage. The goal was the 22nd of the season for Blomstrand, and gave him sole possession of the team lead, at least for one period.
After a scoreless second period, the K-Wings added to their lead early in the third. While on the power-play, Dane Fox picked up the loose puck in front of the Fuel net and chopped it in for his 22nd of the season. The goal was the third with the extra-man for the K-Wings, who finished the game 3-for-7 on the power-play.
Just 1:01 later, Gergo Nagy fired in his 11th of the season. Lane Scheidl fed a perfect pass to the stick of Nagy, who flipped it over Indy goaltender Shane Owen.
Continuing to pour on the offense, Neal (14th) found pay-dirt for the second time of the game. After Nagy stripped a Fuel player of the puck, Neal got it and walked into the slot for the tally. The assist gave Nagy his 100th career point.
Not looking to go away, the Fuel found their first goal of the night from Garrett Bembridge (23rd), who was credited with the marker after the puck bounced off the skate of a K-Wings defender.
Shrinking the K-Wings lead to three, Bembridge found the back of the net once again, this time for his 24th goal of the season.
Pulling the Fuel to within two, Chris Desousa picked up the loose puck to the right of Joel Martin and tipped it in for his third of the season.
Martin, who made his 20th consecutive start, turned aside 32 shots to improve his record to 22-16-2-2.
