BUFFALO – The NCAA Frozen Four kicked off Thursday night with the semi-final match-ups.
Minnesota-Duluth faced off with Providence and came out on top, 4-1.
Hunter Shepard made 28 saves to get the win.
The game was a defensive feature with the defending NCAA champions clamping down on the Providence offense.
“We knew it was going to be that type of game, a lot of momentum swings but our guys stuck with it and our penalty-kill was huge,” Bulldogs coach Scott Sandelin said.
Justin Richards, Billy Exell,
Josh Wilkins was the lone goal scorer for Providence College.
Hayden Hawkey made 32 saves in the loss, surrendering just two goals.
Dylan Samberg and Justin Richards added empty-net goals to close out the scoring.
