Annapolis, MD: It was a Hockey Night in Annapolis featuring the women from the Naval Academy and Rowan University on Friday, December 2, with the Midshipmen coming out victorious with a 6-4 win.
Emma Stillwaggon would start the games scoring for Rowan at 2:56 with help from Erin Campbell. At 16:57, Kristina Cornelion would even the score for Navy with a short-handed goal. Less than two minutes later, at 18:55 Marguerite Schillinger would give Navy the lead with assists coming from Kirsta Wheelock and Elizabeth Perry.
With 4:13 gone in the second period, Navy’s Elizabeth Perry would add a goal to go with her previous assist. The Rowan women would score the next two goals, both coming on power plays. Giovanna Caruso would tally at 6:18 with assists from Emilee Lindenmuth and Cassie Gravelle. Just one minute and five seconds later, it was Cassie Gravelle scoring an unassisted goal to tie the game, which would hold up through the end of the second period.
Rowan’s Emilee Lindenmuth would get the lead back for Rowan 2:16 into the third, with an assist from Amanda Pietz on yet another power play goal. Rowan would hold onto
the lead until 16:05 when Alexis Smith would score for Navy, with the helper from Samantha Clark. At 18:44, it would be Elizabeth Perry scoring what would end up being the game winner, with assists from Savannah Holt and Kristina Cornelio. Eighteen seconds later, at 19:02, it would be Kristina Cornelio putting the game away with help from Elizabeth Perry and Lauren Power.
Magdalen Kolassa would get the win in net for Navy, making 21 saves on 25 shots. Rowan’s Savannah Thomason would make 39 saves on 45 shots. The two teams would meet up again just hours later at 11am on Saturday morning.
