In the game dubbed “The Battle Before the War, Hockey Friday, Football Saturday”, it was the Midshipmen defeating the Black Knights 7-3. The game was played at the Rink at American Dream which is across the street from MetLife Stadium where the annual Army/Navy football game was played.
The Midshipmen got off to a quick start just 51 seconds into the game when Nathan Hyden scored with assists from Evan Adams and Sean Ostrowski. Hyden would score again just three minutes and five seconds later, unassisted.
Navy would continue to extend their lead on a power play goal scored by Nick Aown, with an assist from Brendan Reynolds at 5:59. Porter Markel would score a power play goal for Navy at 8:54 with assists from John Mullen and Jack Burke.
The Midshipmen would continue their assault on the Black Knights, when at 14:33 Anders Gulbrandson would score, with help from Aown and Austin Hogan.
Aown would extend the Navy lead to 6-0 when he would score a power play goal with assists from Ostrowski and Reynolds. Army’s Kai Holm would break the shutout at 17:40 with an assist from Slade Streeter. Navy would take a 6-1 lead into the second period.
Calvin Mckee would score an unassisted goal for Army at 14:11. Navy’s Thomas Krisztinicz would respond at 15:42 with Markel getting an assist, to extend the lead back to five.
The Black Knight’s Benjamin Gaucher would score the final goal of the game with an assist from Andrew Fergus at 18:55, still in the second period.
Casey McCormick would get the win for Navy making 24 saves on 27 shots. Charles Doherty would come in to make 7 saves on 7 shots in the third period.
William Eckland would take the loss for Army, making 10 saves on 17 shots. Christopher Eno came into the game in the second period and made saves on all 3 shots he faced.
Navy would also win the football game played on Saturday, by a score of 17-14.
