Navy defeats Loyola on skills PHN's Best Shots of the Game

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland : In the second game of a doubleheader Hockey Night in Annapolis, the Navy D2 Midshipmen defeated the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds 6-5 in a shootout on Saturday night. After the Navy D1 team beat Villanova in overtime,

it was the D2’s teams time to shine in an exciting back and forth game.

As was the case in the first game, there was no scoring in the first period of the D2 game. In this game, however, it was Navy jumping out to the lead in the second period on a power play goal with 14:06 remaining.

Less than a minute later, Loyola would tie the game with 13:25 remaining on an even strength goal. With 11:49 remaining,

Loyola would capitalize on a power play goal. Navy would then score two quick goals with 6:46 and 5:45 remaining to take a 3-2 lead into the intermission.

In the third period, Navy and Loyola would trade power play goals. Navy would tally with 14:41 remaining, while Loyola would tally with 6:51 remaining.

With 4:10 remaining, Loyola would score the tying goal, which would lead to overtime. Neither team would score in overtime, with Loyola taking five shots, to Navy’s 2 shots.

Navy would pull off the victory in the shootout by scoring on two of three shots, while Loyola scored on one of their three opportunities. Navy’s goalie would make 40 saves on 45 shots, while Loyola’s keeper would make 25 saves on 31 shots.
