In Montreal Saturday, the Canadiens had an extra attacker late in the third period and Jonathan Drouin struck to tie the game with the Nashville Predators, 2-2 and force extra time.
Fortunately for the Predators, Pekka Rinne was on his game, 47 saves, and backstopped the Nashville to a 3-2 shootout win over the Habs.
“We need to play a lot better in front of him and there’s definitely things that we can do better,” Predators head coach Peter Laviolette said. “But that didn’t happen, so we relied on our goaltending and he was outstanding. He was incredible tonight.”
Scott Hartnell and Kevin Fiala had goals for Nashville in regulation.
Ryan Ellis picked up the deciding goal in the skills competition.
Brendan Gallagher also scored for the Habs.
Montreal dropped to 22-26-7 with the loss.

Carey Price made 30 saves in the loss.
“All I can say is we deserved a better result,” Canadiens head coach Claude Julien said. “I think we deserved to win that game. We did everything, and tonight there were two good goalies, and that kept the game tight. But I have nothing negative to say about my team, because from start to finish, we played a solid game. We did everything we could to win, and we should have won.”
