Nashville edge Coyotes, 3-2

The Nashville Predators needed two goals from Kyle Turris and Kevin Fiala in the third period to find a way to their 3-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night at the Bridgestone Arena.

Pekka Rinne made 32 saves to pick up his 39th win of the season as the Preds improved to 46-14-10.

“The guys know that they’re chasing points right now,” Nashville head coach Peter Laviolette said. “Everything we talk about is to try and improve our position for the [Stanley Cup] Playoffs and home ice. You’ve got to go out and do the work, and we did in the third.”

The Coyotes have been hot of late going 11-4-2 in 17 games and can be excused for not beating one of the best teams in the league.

Christian Dvorak and Oliver Ekman-Larsson struck for the Coyotes who held a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

“We didn’t give them much tonight,” said Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet. “That’s a championship team there. They’re locked and loaded. You let them hang around a little bit, they’re going to score some goals.”

Ryan Ellis also scored for the Preds.

The Predators have points in 13 straight games.

“It hasn’t always been perfect. It never is, I don’t think, for any NHL team. The 60 minutes always has a little bit of give and take in it, but there’s been more that we’ve taken and gone out and earned and worked for,” Laviolette said of the streak.

Darcy Kuemper made 26 saves in the loss.

“We didn’t play bad the first two periods, we just felt like we had more to give,” Turris said after the win. “We know what we’re capable of when we’re playing to the level we want to play.”
