Nashville double up Flyers, 4-2 Tomasino double leads Predators

PHILADELPHIA – the visiting Nashville Predators’ Philip Tomasino  scored  twice on Thursday night.

His first goal, in the middle frame tied the game with the Flyers, 2-2, and his double came in the third to snap the tie and send the Preds to a 4-2 win.

“Obviously my goal is to be here in the lineup every night,” Tomasino said. “I’m a point producer and I’m a guy that likes to score goals. I think I’ve been a little bit, I don’t want to say snakebitten, but I think I have to start burying my chances a little more. Especially the last 10 or 15 games, I think I’ve had a lot of really good looks that haven’t gone in. So, if I can hopefully continue to do that, I think there’ll be a lot more. But I’m just trying to do the right things every day, and it’s been working out. So, it’s been it’s been a lot of fun for me.”

Juuse Saros made 29 saves in the win

“I thought it was outstanding all game,” Predators coach Andrew Brunette said. “Felt we were really competitive on the puck, doing the things we didn’t do Tuesday (5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks). I thought we did them tonight. I think we played about a 58-minute game that I felt very comfortable with.”

Nashville improved to 19-14-0..

The Flyers took a 1-0 lead at 1″31 of the first period on a goal from Morgan Frost.

“We’ve been on a nice little run here,” Frost said. “We want to go into the break with a good mindset. I think we’ve bounced back all year. This team has a lot of resiliency and mental toughness. I don’t think a loss is going to hold us down.”

Cole Smith knotted it, 1-1, for the Predators 65 seconds into the middle frame.

Philadelphia dropped to 18-11-3.

“They had the better of play in the third period, but we’re holding on and we just can’t keep it simple,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “When it comes down into late in the third period, its who blinks first, and we blinked a number of times and didn’t give ourselves a chance to win.”

Sean Couturier hit off the power play at at 4:45 of the middle frame for a 2-1 lead to the Flyers.,

Tomasino’s first tied it at 5:24 of the second headed to the third period.

His double came at 15:59  for the 3-2 lead.

“I’m proud of him,” Brunette said of Tomasino. “From where we started the year … it was a little bit of work to get him to play to a certain pace and understand kind of my expectations of him. And he put the work in. He’s been playing exceptional here the last month or so. It was nice to see him get rewarded tonight because he’s had so many good looks and he was driving a lot of offense for us.”
