Narrow loss for Stingrays

Rapid Solicitors Hull Stingrays were edged out 4-3 by Nottingham Panthers at the National Ice Centre in the Elite League.

Brendan Jamison fired Stingrays ahead on the powerplay 2.38 into the second period with his first goal for the club but a powerplay marker from Max Parent (35.03) saw Panthers level.  Nottingham Panthers

However, quickfire strikes from Chris Lawrence (45.16 powerplay), Greg Jacina (46.59) and Mike Berube (49.33) put Panthers in the driving seat.

Jonathan Boxill (Panthers) and Stingrays assistant captain Zach Hervato then picked up five-minute fighting majors at 50.31.

Two goals inside 10 seconds from Will Frederick (52.10 powerplay) and Jordan Knox (52.20) gave Stingrays hope but they were unable to force overtime and secure at least a point.

Player-coach Omar Pacha said: “I am disappointed because I felt we could have had a point – it was the best we have played in the last four games, we were back to our old self.

“I thought we played well in the first two periods but we ran into penalty trouble and it hurt us. We also lost Turcs [Yan Turcotte] for 12 minutes in the third which put us down to four ‘D’.

“Zach Hervato was hurt and didn’t play for most of the game but he had a fight to wake up the bench and give us some energy and we managed to get a couple of goals back but unfortunately we could not tie it up. We will regroup now and move on.”
