FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Komets claimed the first of a back-to-back home set against the Rapid City Rush Saturday night 1-0 on a 21-save performance of goaltender Pat Nagle. Nagle was the “Hero of the Night” as a Fort Wayne crowd of 8,636 turned out for Super Hero’s Night.
It was Nagle’s third shutout of the season and the fifth overall for the Komets. The netminder improved to 15-6-2 in his 12th straight start and extended his home unbeaten streak to seven games (6-0-1).
After two scoreless periods, Fort Wayne’s Brett Perlini finally solved Rush goaltender Danny Battochio with a power play marker at 16:27 and the Komets held on for the win. Perlini pushed his point-scoring streak to 10 games (5g, 8a, 13 points). Battochio suffered the loss making 34 saves on 35 shots.
The Komets will skate their third home game in three nights Sunday when Rapid City returns for a 5pm. faceoff. The game will honor Komet broadcaster Bob Chase’s 90th birthday with a special ceremony prior to opening faceoff. Chase is enjoying his 63rd consecutive season behind the Fort Wayne microphone radio-rinkside.
