My cat is a jerk Loo rolls, schedules and cat toys

Mimi the prognosticator

ALBUQUERQUE – Officially, the state of New Mexico has been on a #StayAtHome order from the Governor for a week.  Clients (yes, I do have a day gig) have shuttered their operations for nearly three weeks now.

That has left me with my cat.  She and I had a conversation yesterday and she asked, then demanded, I leave the house for new supplies.

What sort of supplies?

I don’t care, get me a toy.

You realize this is a coronavirus, this is a veterinary issue as well as human now?

Yeah, Yeah Yeah. Wash your hands when you get home.

So, I was at the local grocery stores and noticed that society is still hoarding loo rolls and paper towels, the latter for the really ugly messes.

I did return to some scribbled notes for me, on the NHL and the state of hockey.  Mimi and I have had wonderful conversations since the quarantine began.  But I’m fine.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has offered that the #COVID19 infection apex is still three weeks away.  That puts us into late April, for the apex, not the end of the crisis.

The Rangers, Islanders Sabres, and New Jersey Devils would still be locked down. By extension, the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins would be impacted by the same lockdown.

The American Hockey League affiliates in Rochester, Hartford, Bridgeport, Allentown, Providence, and Binghamton would also find themselves without options.

At least according to Mimi.

One rumor has the NHL finishing the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Final around the time of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta in October.  The 2020-21 season would start up in November.  These are certainly challenging times, but let’s see what the NHLPA has to say first.

Society being what it is, a loo roll hunting mob, arenas will be looking to fill seats and the back log of NHL games will compete with concerts, monster truck rallies, WWE, lacrosse, and indoor soccer. Mimi prefers soccer because she can chase the ball better.

We may reach the apex of #COVID19 infection rate in 21 days, but the rate will still be catastrophic for weeks thereafter.

An avid listener of the PHN podcast (@PHN_PODCAST on Twitter), Mimi leans towards Adam Minnick (@ADAM_PHN) and his option for a four-team playoff.

Keep it simple and short and get everyone else home and safe.

She doesn’t care what I think, and we have argued this point for weeks now.

That would leave the Eastern Conference with the Washington Capitals and Bruins.

The Western Conference would be represented by St Louis Blues and Vegas Golden Knights.

I suggested the top four teams from each conference, but I am still cleaning up the house and hoping to hit the urgent care for stitches.

The regular season should be called. Difficult to squeeze 12 to 14 games into a shortened time frame and run full playoff brackets and crown a Cup champion, all while negotiating bonuses, salaries, travel restrictions, and oh yeah free agency, the entry draft, and monster truck rallies in the dead of summer.

The pandemic will end later rather than sooner, and we all need to wrap our heads around that fact.   The health and well-being of society are essential, because we need to know where all those loo rolls are when this is over.

We’ve lost entire seasons before this including Stanley Cup champions. Look, the Rangers are two points back of a wild card spot, you think I’m happy?

Hey, where’s my toy?

Here you go.,

Did you wash your hands?

You bet.

I did find my #BuffaloTrace bourbon at the only real “grocery” store?
