MELBOURNE, Australia – The Melbourne Mustangs built an 8-2 advantage through two periods of play and withstood a furious rally from the Sydney IceDogs to post a 10-7 win Saturday.
Melbourne spread the scoring around with nine different skaters scoring a goal. Mark Higgins collected two goals in the win.
Petr Stepanek scored twice for the IceDogs in the loss.
Jack Hayes picked up the win for the Mustangs on 27 saves and Jack Burgess absorbed the loss after relieving Charlie Smart who surrendered four goals on six shots to start the game.
Both clubs will finish out of the AIHL playoff picture.
