Muse outduels Grumet-Morris, Checkers win 2-1

CHARLOTTE, NC – It was almost a replay of Monday evening’s game as far as goaltenders were concerned. Dov Grumet-Morris in the Rampage goal, was in great form once again, making 42 saves. He kept the Checkers out and San Antonio in the game.

John Muse, in goal for Charlotte, also had a very good evening making 42 saves in his first AHL start this season. Muse, has an impressive pedigree having won two NCAA National Championships with Boston College. He began the season with the Florida Everblades and has been back-up goalie in 14 AHL games this season with Charlotte.

Charlotte was very disappointed with their performance Monday evening, Wednesday night they came out with a new determination and spark. Jerome Samson, lead the charge, after being named to the AHL All Star Game along with team mate Jon Matsumoto. Samson had six opportunities on goal plus several chances that narrowly passed the net.

Samson put the Checkers a-head with his 15th goal of the season and his fifth in the last seven games. His first period shot was blocked by a Rampage defender, Samson managed to retrieve the puck before beating Grumet-Morris in the Rampage goal.

In the third period Riley Nash put Charlotte further a-head on a power play. The goal was set up on the boards by Matt Pistilli. The puck was then passed on to Michel Jordan who took the shot and Nash then tipped the puck into the net, his third goal of the season.

Muse, who had an excellent third period making 17 saves that included a wonderful glove save from the Rampages Mark Cullen. Unfortunately he could not stop the shut-out with David Marshall scoring for San Antonio with just over a minute to go in regulation.

The Checkers now go back on the road for two very important games in Milwaukee, Saturday January 7 and Chicago Sunday, January 8.
