Muse carries Elmira to shootout win

GLENS FALLS, NY – John Muse stopped 39 saves in regulation and overtime, plus another three in the shootout as the Elmira Jackals (2-2-0-0) defeated the Adirondack Thunder (2-0-1-1), 2-1, in a shootout Tuesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
Elmira Jackals logoIn a busy first period, Muse kept the Jackals in the game by making 19 saves as the Jackals were outshot, 19-3. That kept the game scoreless heading into the second period.

Adirondack broke the ice early in the second with Brian Ward snapping a shot from the left circle past Muse to the far post, giving the Thunder a 1-0 at 1:12 of the second. After successfully killing two Thunder power plays, the Jackals pulled even with a power play of their own. Mike Radja and Daultan Leveille cycled the puck along the right wing boards then sent it to Steven Kaunisto at the blue line. He skated to the high slot and wristed a shot through traffic that beat Thunder goalie Ken Appleby to tie the game 1-1 at 16:37.

Both Appleby and Muse kept the game tied in a tight third period to send the game to overtime, the first time the Jackals have played past regulation this season. After a scoreless five minutes of 3-on-3 hockey, the Jackals won the game in a shootout. Tyson Fawcett scored in round one for Elmira and Muse stopped all three Thunder shooters to seal the Jackals’ second win of the season.
