Murray, Senators blank Montreal

In Montreal, Matt Murray made 23 saves and the Ottawa Senators defeated the Canadiens, 4-0, on Saturday.

“I think it says a lot about how well the team played,” Murray said. “It seemed like a very kind of defensive style of game. Everybody was just kind of clogging up the middle.”

It was his first shutout of the Season.

Drake Batherson struck twice for the Senators.

“We came out hungry right from the get-go tonight and got rewarded,” Batherson said. “And we had great goaltending tonight too by Murray. He was awesome.”

Artem Zub got the Ottawa offense rolling with a goal for a 1-0 lead early in the first period..

“Our execution wasn’t good at times, and we didn’t get enough traffic in front of [Murray],” Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme said.

Nikita Zaitsev closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal on a shot from out near Toronto.

“I think it’s pretty cool, obviously,” Shane Pinto (assisted on the goalo for his first NHL point in his debut.said. “I’m just happy I won the draw so we were able to get it out of the D-zone.”

Carey Price returned to the lineup and made 11 saves in the loss.

“I felt pretty good,” Price said. “You know, whenever you take a break there’s always a bit of an adjustment period getting back, but I thought the adjustment was pretty quick.”
