Murphy not bitter to rejoin Redskins

LONDON, UK – Streatham Redskins held off competition from a number of clubs to secure the services of defenseman Owen Murphy for the 2010/11 season.

The 32 year old rejoins the Redskins following a steady season on the blue line in 2009/10. Listing Slough Jets, Bracknell Hornets, Lee Valley Lions and Haringey Greyhounds on his hockey CV, Murphy has a fair amount of experience at ENL level and higher. After an ill fated switch to Haringey Greyhounds last summer, Murphy rejoined the Redskins mid season and is making no mistake this time round by signing on at the High Road:

“I’m delighted to be back” said a smiling Murphy. “Last season was tough results wise, but the team spirit was amongst the best I’ve known. I know Barry is working hard trying to secure both re-signings and some new signings as the league has taken another leap forward this summer,

“On a personal level I’ve shifted some ‘puppy fat’ (yes it is possible to have at 32!), and will be looking to carry my form from the tail end of last season into the new campaign,

“I also want to say a massive thank you to the fans. Last year you dragged us through games and at points we didn’t give you too much to cheer about. Everyone within the club will do what we can to re-pay you with a more productive season this time around”

Murphy posted two goals and four assists in his 24 appearances for the Redskins last season and saw a lot of ice time. Head Coach Barry Spours is pleased that Murphy has chosen to return to the Redskins this year:

“Owen put in a lot of work last season on his fitness and has been working hard through the summer on his game in preparation for the new season” said the Redskins Coach. “Owen has one of the best blue line shots I have seen and when he steps up to our own defensive blue line can put in some of the best hits in the league,

“He lends himself well to power play and has been assisting me with off ice preparations during the summer too, demonstrating his commitment to the team and in my opinion showing just how seriously he takes his hockey. Our defensive team is really taking shape now and Owens return to the defensive squad is a solid addition indeed”

Streatham are holding open trials next week (July 8th at 9.15pm) to see if they can add any unsigned talent to their roster.
