In the final quarterfinal matchup, Switzerland held off two late Finland power plays to secure the last remaining spot in the semifinals besting the Finns 1-0. The game was a rematch of last Tuesday’s preliminary-round meeting, where Finland defeated the Swiss 3–1.
Finland heavily outshot Switzerland 40–14, but as in the earlier matchup, Alina Müller found the scoresheet. Her second-period goal proved decisive, standing as the lone marker of the afternoon. Swiss netminder Andrea Brändli delivered a stellar performance, turning aside all 40 shots she faced to earn the shutout.
Finland’s tournament comes to an end in the quarterfinals. After an early bout of norovirus swept through the locker room, the Finns recovered to earn a win over Switzerland in group play, ensuring they finished above them in Group A. This time, however, Switzerland had the final say and will advance to face Canada in Monday’s semifinals.
