The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze scored twice in the first period and had a man of the match performance from netminder C.J. Motte to collect a valuable 2-1 win over the Guildford Flames at the Spectrum on Tuesday.
Luke Ferrara opened the scoring on the powerplay (10.17) with his fourth goal in as many games and sixth in his past seven.
Alec Marsh doubled the Blaze advantage at 12.41 and despite both teams earning powerplay chances, the next goal wasn’t to come until the third period.
It went to Ian McNulty and the Flames on 41.46 but the Blaze weren’t to be denied the crucial two Elite League points as C.J. Motte stood tall to register his 18th win of the regular season and help move the Blaze up to fifth place in the table.
