SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The Mississippi RiverKings (18-11-2) shutout the Evansville Thunderbolts (9-18-4) 2-0 at the Landers Center behind a a solid defensive performance by Brad Barone and team on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first period, the RiverKings found the back of the net twice in the second period. Mike Moran, on the penalty kill, wristed a shot from the slot to give the RiverKings a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Corey Tyrell slipped a shot between the legs of Evansville goalie Michael Doan with an assist by Mike Grace.
In the third, the RiverKings, behind goaltender Brad Barone, stopped all ten shots against to take game two of the weekend’s home-and-home series with the Thunderbolts.
Brad Barone (10-7-2) stopped all 24 shots against to earn his first shutout of the year. Michael Doan (2-7-0) took the loss for Evansville after turning aside 29 of 31 shots against.
The RiverKings were held scoreless on four power play opportunities, while Evansville did not convert on three chances with the man advantage.
