Rockford, Ill. – The Rockford IceHogs scored three goals in five minutes during the third period, but the late rally wasn’t enough in a 5-3 loss to the Manitoba Moose Friday night at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Kyle Baun, Luke Johnson and Tyler Motte each scored to turn a 4-0 deficit into a one-goal game in the third period. However, Manitoba’s JC Lipon potted an empty-netter at the 18:30 mark to seal the Moose’s win.
Manitoba took the lead just 11 seconds into the game when Kyle Connor beat IceHogs goaltender Mac Carruth on a loose puck in front of the net.
Connor notched his second goal of the night one period later to spark a three-goal outburst for the Moose. Scott Kosmachuk followed at 2:38 into the frame and Quinton Howden scored what proved to be the game-winner at 3:36.
Lars Johansson then relieved Carruth in net and stopped each of the 18 shots he faced.
