WINNIPEG, MANITOBA – With all the hoopla over the NHL and their February 28th trade deadline, the dust finally settled and new players work with their new teams it was time for the AHL to do the same, and the Manitoba Moose have entered their list of players to the AHL head office in time for the March 7th deadline.
The Moose have made minimal changes to their roster in fact only one change to note that does not really affect the Moose too much as Manitoba was able to pick up Keith Seabrook in exchange for MacGregor Sharp.
This trade between the Moose and the Heat means Seabrook will be on the reserve player list and may not get significant ice time but is a great addition to the defensive corps of the Moose.
In Seabrook, the Moose get a seasoned defenseman who was an original draft pick of the Calgary Flames in the 2nd round of the NHL Entry draft (52nd overall) in 2006.
Seabrook has since been a part of the Flames’ farm system.
He is a fast defenseman and he has power, speed and size that the Moose hope will help the defensive corps that is already one of the strongest in the AHL. Seabrook may see time on the Moose 2nd string power play unit and maybe, if he is lucky, he might even make the shoot out roster.
Seabrook is a shut-down style defenseman, he sees the developing play well and reads another player from afar.
He has played 48 games so far this season for Abbotsford and has notched 20 points on 4 goals and 16 assists.
Seabrook has also logged time in the AHL playoffs with 12 games to go along with over 100 regular season games. It seems reasonable to think that Seabrook will fit well in the Manitoba scheme and with the wide ranging injury list in Vancouver it is likely he could see a call-up or two sooner rather than later.
As for Sharp, he never dressed for a Manitoba Moose game he was on loan to the Anaheim Ducks farm system in Syracuse. It appears the Heat may well use him within the centre position, probably on the 4th line.
There were no other changes for the Manitoba Moose this year and they seem to be set for the AHL post season and a run at the Calder Cup.
