Moose keep rolling in 7-2 win over Rampage

The Manitoba Moose (22-5-1-2) and San Antonio Rampage (16-11-2-0) clashed for the first time this season on Thursday night at Bell MTS Place.  The visitors got the scoring going 3:22 into the game when Trent Vogelhuber found some space in the slot and made a move to the backhand, sliding the puck past Michael Hutchinson.  Manitoba tied the game at 7:46 off Mason Appleton’s 10th goal of the season, courtesy of a quick feed out of the corner from Nic Petan.  The Moose fired 17 shots on goal, but only cashed in on the one tally, heading to the second tied 1-1.

The Moose took their first lead of the contest 3:02 into the middle frame as Sami Niku stepped into a slap shot on the power play, ripping his fourth of the campaign by Ville Husso.  The Moose started to pull away at 11:34, when a three-on-one produced a gorgeous cross-ice feed from Mason Appleton to Jack Roslovic who roofed the puck for a two-goal edge.  The Moose power play cashed in again, this time Niku set the table for Petan who unleashed a one-timer to put the Moose ahead 4-1.  Manitoba closed out the period with a shorthanded goal from Patrice Cormier as he picked a Buddy Robinson feed out of the air to send the Moose to the intermission ahead 5-1.

San Antonio opened the third with a power play goal off a wicked Rocco Grimaldi shot to cut into the Moose lead 1:47 into the period.  Manitoba responded quickly, restoring the four-goal lead at 3:38 of the frame.  Coming in on a two-on-one rush, Michael Spacek’s centering pass for Jansen Harkins redirected into the goal off a defender’s skate.  Just 12 seconds later, JC Lipon pushed a pass into the slot for Mike Sgarbossa who lifted a backhander into the goal for a 7-2 Moose lead.  Michael Hutchinson closed out the night having made 33 saves on 35 shots as the Moose won their fifth in a row and recorded points in their 15th straight game.
