Moose hurry past IceHogs

WINNIPEG, Manitoba – Dennis Gilbert pulled the Rockford IceHogs within one goal early in the third period, but Felix Girard potted a late tally and Eric Comrie made 33 saves to snuff the comeback and send the Manitoba Moose to a 3-1 win Saturday night at Bell MTS Place.

Gilbert cleaned up a rebound in front of the net, collecting a loose puck from Peter Holland’s shot and easily wristing the puck into the back of the net. The marker broke up more than 40 minutes of a shutout by Comrie, and pulled the Hogs within 2-1 just 2:48 into the third period.

The late goal was quickly matched by Girard, however, as the forward converted a centering feed from Alexis D’Aoust to rebuff the lead to two goals. D’Aoust also found twine in the first period and finished with a two-point effort in the contest.

The IceHogs pulled goaltender Anton Forsberg with two minutes remaining in regulation, but the late push was stymied by Comrie. Manitoba’s netminder stopped 19 shots in the third period to remain unbeaten in regulation in two starts against Rockford this season.

Rockford went 0-for-6 on the power play in the defeat.
