WINNIPEG – The Manitoba Moose (4-3-1-1) and Belleville Senators (4-4-0-1) met up for a pre-Halloween trick-or-treat session at Bell MTS Place on Saturday night. The Moose treated themselves to a pair of goals, 1:36 apart, midway through the frame. Mike Sgarbossa opened the scoring when his shot pinballed off a couple pairs of skates before finding its way to the back of the net at the 11:03 mark. The second goal came
off the stick of Peter Stoykewych as the Winnipegger fired a well-placed wrist shot through traffic and past Danny Taylor in the Belleville net. Michael Hutchinson turned away 10 shots in the period as Manitoba rolled into the intermission with a 2-0 lead.
Belleville wasted no time in the second period in getting on the board. Just 26 seconds into the frame, Ben Sexton pounced on a Jim O’Brien rebound to cut the Moose lead to one. Despite a combined 27 shots on goal, the early goal was the only tally in the period. Belleville nearly tied the game on a scramble in front of Michael Hutchinson, but the Moose got a little help from the post. At the other end of the ice, Nic Petan had a good look on a feed from Sgarbossa, but just missed on the short side as the Moose carried the 2-1 lead into the third.
The visitors had the final trick in the third. With just under three minutes remaining, a giveaway in the Moose zone found its way to Gabriel Gagne in the slot and the Senators forward ripped home his second goal in as many nights. The final minutes didn’t produce a go-ahead goal so the teams skated into overtime for the second straight game. Just seconds into the extra frame, Filip Chlapik stole the puck and raced in on a breakaway, scoring to lift Belleville to the 3-2 win.
