Montreal swamp Canucks, 7-3

Whatever good feelings the Vancouver Canucks had coming out of the first period on home ice Thursday night (2-2 tie) were washed away when the Montreal Canadiens struck for four goals and 6-3 lead heading to the third period.

Tyler Toffoli scored twice in a 7-3 win for the Habs.

“[Toffoli] is playing really well right now,” Nick Suzuki said. “He’s getting a ton of chances and burying most of them. It’s a bit of a flashback to last night, but it’s good to get a win tonight.”

Jake Allen made 14 saves for the Canadiens in the win.

Toffoli scored once off a shorthanded situation.

“We’re just making good reads,” Toffoli said of the penalty kill.

Joel Armia had two and four points for Montreal.

Bo Horvat scored twice for the Canucks.

“We’ve got to figure it out within our dressing room and buy in,” Horvat said. “It’s a long year, we have another game against these guys, and we’re going to try to win this miniseries.”

Josh Anderson, Jake Evans and Armia put the game away with their goals in the middle frame to make the score 6-2.

Brandon Sutter scored for the Canucks in the third to make the 6-3, but Ben Chariot added a power play goal for the Habs to rub a little salt in the wound.

Thatcher Demko made 35 saves in the loss.
