Montreal stop Caps in OT, 2-1 Caufield  scored winner in OT - Update to follow

In Montreal, the Canadiens made short work of extra time on Saturday night when Cole Caufield  scored the winner with 47 seconds gone in the session for a 3-2 win over the visiting Washington Capitals.

Jake Allen made 31 saves in the Canadiens win.

Montreal took a 2-0 lead into the third period.

Sean Monahan staked the Habs to a 1-0 lead at 18:55 of the first.

Midway through the second period, Brendan Gallagher  scored to push the Montreal lead to 2-0.

The Caps rallied on a double by Dylan Strome  in the third.

Strome scored at 11:25 to trim the deficit to 2-1.

With two minutes left on the regulation clock, Strome hit for his double to force the extra session.

Darcy Kuemper made 25 saves in the loss for the Caps.
