Montreal rallies past Flyers for win in OT PHN's Best Shots of the Game Update to follow

PHILADELPHIA – The Montreal Canadiens’ Rem Pitlick scored late in the third period to tie their game, 3-3, with the Flyers on Sunday and force extra time.

Sam Montembeault made 25 saves in the Montreal win.

“It was a long game too on Saturday so it’s fun to see that the coaches trust me to go out on a back to back like that,” Montembeault said. “I was really happy and I played a great game.”

Cole Caufield completed the rally with a goal in the extra session for a 4-3 win.

“We’re going to have to keep finding ways to get players to understand that you can play the way you want to play or you can play winning hockey,” Flyers coach Mike Yeo said. “Our defensive game is game is getting better … that’s nice, that’s what you have to do, that’s what you’re supposed to do. And there’s a way to play with the puck where you’re not turning it over and giving free ice and freebies to a team that obviously has skill. We still refuse to do that.”

Claude Giroux, Cam Atkinson , and Kevin Hayes scored for the Flyers.

“Right now, we’re in a deep hole,” Giroux said. “We’re just finding ways to lose right now. Our whole game we played pretty solid, had a lot of chances, did a lot of good things. End of the game we always find a way to lose the game.”

The Habs moved to 16-35-8.

Nick Suzuki hit for a double for the Canadiens.

“I think we kind of started out slow,” Suzuki said. “Always tough going back to back. Had a late night travel, so I think we were a little sluggish at the start but definitely earned that win.”

Philadelphia fell to 18-30-11.

“Take ice time away, put guys on the fourth line, scratch guys if we have to,” Yeo said. “I don’t know if we have enough [space under the NHL salary cap] to call guys up. This is veteran players we’re going to have to do it to.”

Carter Hart made 31 saves in the Flyers loss.
