The Cleveland Monsters beat the Toronto Marlies 3-1 on Sunday evening at Coca-Cola Coliseum. With the win, the Monsters finished the regular season 40-24-5-3 and clinched the first North Division Championship title in franchise history.

Following a scoreless first period, Trey Fix-Wolansky notched a tally at 1:54 of the middle frame off feeds from Justin Pearson and Owen Sillinger sending Cleveland to the final intermission leading 1-0. Fix-Wolansky added an unassisted power-play goal at 2:39 of the third period, but Toronto’s Max Ellis responded at 8:33 to bring the game to 2-1. Roman Ahcan added an empty-net goal with assists from Jake Christiansen and Jet Greaves to secure the 3-1 win and North Division title. With Sunday’s victory, Greaves picked up his 61st career win with the Monsters setting a new franchise record for most by a goaltender.
Greaves stopped 30 shots for the win while Toronto’s Luke Cavallin made 13 saves in defeat after relieving Dennis Hildeby who stopped 20 shots.
With the win, the Monsters have advanced to the best-of-five North Division Semifinals of the Calder Cup Playoffs as the first seed. They will take on the winner of a best-of-three First Round series between the Toronto Marlies (fifth seed) and the Belleville Senators (fourth seed). Game dates will be announced after the conclusion of the First Round series between Toronto and Belleville.
