QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Ranked second overall in the QMJHL standing, the Moncton Wildcats wins 7-4 over Quebec handing the Remparts their four consecutive loss. Kevin Klima and Manuel Wiederer led Wildcats offense with two goals each. Ending the game with four assists it was the eighth time this year and 21st time in his QMJHL career for Conor Garland.
Contrary to last night game where the first goal in the game was scored at 19:15 of the third period in Halifax, Quebec opened the scoring with only 1:29 gone in the opening
period. Being along the board Quebec left winger Matthew Boucher’s shot hit Moncton defenseman Jacob Sweeney before slowly going behind Quebec goaltender Callum Booth.
Moncton tied the game with 2:04 remaining in first period. Making first save on Cornor Garland shot Quebec netminder wasn’t able to do anything on rebound shot by Manuel Wiederer who scored his 21st.
Hit on the head by defenseman Zachary Malatesta Quebec goalie Booth left the game at 18:48 living his place to Quebec recently claimed on waiver from Baie-Comeau Evgeny Kiselev.
Matthew Boucher dropped the gloves coming to the defense of teammate Anthony Gingras by Kevin Klima. Klima get an additional penalty to previously hitting Quebec defenseman Gingras from behind at 19:17.
Four goals were scored in an action second period. Quebec regained the lead with only 1:40 gone in middle frame. Quebec center Bronson Beaton redirect a shot by Olivier Garneau to give a 2-1 lead to Quebec.
Trying to ice his territory his attempted came right on the stick of Liam O’Brien who wrist it on Kiselev right side for his 9th of the regular season at 7:18.
The Wildcats adds two more goals in span of 28 seconds to take the lead for first time. Playing his second game with his new team coming from Baie-Comeau in last trading periods in QMJHL that ended on January 6 at 12:00pm, Vaclav Karabacek surprised Quebec goalie Kiselev from behind the net with 8:38 left to play.
The home team takes the lead by two scoring on their third power play opportunities in the game when Kevin Klima beat Callum Booth who has been sent back in action as he came back after been checkup following been hit to the head. Beaton was in the box for Quebec. Evgeny Kiselev gave two goals on twelve shots.
Leading by two in the beginning of the third the Wildcats scored their fifth goal in the game as Kelly Klima beat Quebec defenseman Ross McDougall between his skates and Quebec goaltender Booth already on the ice with 14:50 remaining in the third period.
Sending four 16 years old on the ice in same time Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher saw the long wrist shot by defenseman Austin McEneney beat Wildcats netminder Bouchard at 8:50.
Quebec reduced Moncton lead to only one goal differences as Beaton scored his second of the game beating Bouchard over his left shoulder at 13:56.
Moncton replied to regain their two goals lead 11 seconds later with second of the game by Kevin Klima beating Booth already on his knees at 14:07.
Pulling his starting netminder Callum Booth with 1:46 left to the third period trying everything having nothing to lose Quebec head coach Boucher saw Wiederer shooting in the empty net with 32.6 seconds left on the clock inflicting to Quebec their second loses in less than twenty-four hours.
Quebec will be back home next Thursday hosting the Shawinigan Cataractes.
