Monarchs shut down Royals

READING, PA –The Manchester Monarchs traveled to Reading Saturday night and shut down the Reading Royals by a score of 3-0 from Santander Arena.

The Monarchs (24-19-1-1) relied on Charles Williams to make 33 saves and took down the Royals (19-16-3-5) by a score of 3-0.

The Monarchs took the lead at 9:46 of the second period on the first goal of the season by Chris Carlisle on the power play. Carlisle crawled into the left circle with Jack Nevins providing a screen in front, when he wristed a shot, past Reading goaltender Andrew D’Agostini to make the score 1-0.

Manchester made it a two-goal game at 15:01 of the third period on the 16th goal of the season by Spencer Watson. Zeb Knutson took a shot from the left circle, where Watson swatted the rebound out of the air and past the dive of D’Agostini making the score 2-0.

Nic Pierog added an empty-net goal with :21 seconds left in the game to give the Monarchs a 3-0 victory.

The Monarchs return to action Sunday, February 3rd at 2 p.m. when they take on the Reading Royals at Santander Arena.
