GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – The Manchester Monarchs were propelled by a two-goal opening period on their way to a 3-2 win over the Adirondack Thunder on Tuesday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
With the win, the Monarchs (5-2-0-1) handed the Thunder (4-1-1-1) their first regulation loss on the season.
Manchester started the scoring when Alexx Privitera netted his second goal of the season at 9:33 of the first period. Privitera took a pass from Daniel Doremus at the top of the slot, and sent a wrister through Thunder goaltender Mason McDonald to give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.
Gasper Kopitar added to the Monarchs lead at 15:27 of the opening period when he scored his second goal of the year. Kopitar took a sneaky pass from Derek Arnold at the right dot, and sent a wrister through a screen and over the left shoulder of McDonald to give the Monarchs a 2-0 advantage.
The Monarchs extended their lead when Daniel Ciampini netted his third goal of the season at 11:37 of the second period. Ciampini took a pass from Justin Agosta low in the right circle, and one-timed a slap shot past McDonald for the 3-0 Monarchs lead.
Adirondack got on the board at 12:25 of the middle frame when Dana Fraser scored his second goal of the season. Fraser took a pass from behind the net by Brett Pollock in the slot, and sent a wrister past Monarchs goaltender Sam Brittain to bring the score to 3-1.
The Thunder drew closer when Brian Ward scored his fifth goal of the season at 17:00 of the third period. With Brittain out of position, Ward wrapped the puck in on his forehand, making the score 3-2 in favor of the Monarchs.
The Monarchs are back on SNHU Arena ice Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. when the Thunder will make the trip the Manchester for the start of a two-game weekend series.
Notes: Kopitar scored in back-to-back games for the first time since Dec. 31 – Jan. 1, 2016…Privitera has recorded points in back-to-back games…Brittain is riding a three-game winning streak.
